EAST: SPRING RACING ON CHAPEL STREET (PART II)
LOCATION: Chapel Street, Melbourne.
COMMENT:As promised in my last post, Part II of my stay and play on Chapel Street involves even more amazing activity, this time for those willing to drop some dough on the experience. From my fave places to eat and treat, to where to stay and shop, I hope this helps you find where to hit up through the Spring Racing season ahead.
EAT: Drugstore Espresso
194 Toorak Rd, South Yarra.
This is just the sort of cafe that the Toorak Road end of Chapel St Precinct needed. The fit out isn’t overdone and the friendly guys that serve you will have beards and/or tattoos along with a smile on their face. Think fresh coconuts, super foods, seeds and soy.
Treat Yo’self: Burch & Purchese Sweet Studio
647 Chapel Street, South Yarra.
As the name suggests, this small studio beneath The Olsen packs a big punch on the dessert scene. Darren Purchase has made a name for himself in Melbourne and many of the best events I have been to have ensured these tailor-made sweet situations are on rotation. I follow the waiters, but you can also just pop in store to pick it up for yourself. The cake list changes monthly, so it warrants regular visits.
Stay: The Olsen
637-641 Chapel St, South Yarra.
Where The Cullen is bold, The Olsen is sophisticated. With walls adorned with artworks by Dr John Olsen, the hotel feels spacious and luxurious. After your first dip in the glass bottom pool that literally hangs over Chapel St, you will be fresh for the day of shopping ahead. The Olsen also has two restaurants attached to it which makes it super easy to pop downstairs for a bite if you’ve been out and about all day.
SHOP: If you’re planning to splurge for the Spring Racing season, Chapel Street has just the shops to scratch that itch for you. My hot tips to hit up include Australian designers Scanlan & Theodore or Manning Cartell. If you’re looking for some Lim of the Phillip variety, hit up Green with Envy which stocks all of your fave international designers including Alexander Wang, Celine, Chloe and ACNE.
